How to Join the Server

Follow these steps to get set up. The whole process takes about 5 minutes.

Before You Start

    A PC or MacThe server runs Java Edition only. Minecraft on phones, consoles, or Windows 10/11 "Bedrock" Edition will not work.

    Minecraft: Java EditionAvailable at minecraft.net for a one-time purchase. If your school account already has it, you're good to go.

    Your @mosesbrown.org school emailThe server requires email verification to keep the community safe. You'll need access to your inbox when you first join.
Step-by-Step

Joining the server

Open Minecraft and go to Multiplayer

Launch Minecraft: Java Edition. From the main menu, click Multiplayer, then click Add Server in the bottom right.

Enter the server address

In the Server Address field, type the address below exactly. The server name can be anything you want.

Note: You don't need to enter a port number — it connects automatically on the default port.

Click Done, then Join Server

Click Done to save the server, then select it from your server list and click Join Server.

Verify with your school email

When you first join, you'll spawn in a locked area with a prompt on screen. Type your @mosesbrown.org email address in the chat. A verification code will be emailed to you — type that code in chat to confirm your identity.

Check your spam folder if the email doesn't arrive within a minute. Once you verify, you won't need to do it again.

Start playing!

After verification you'll appear on the hub spawn island. From there you can:

  • Type /play to go to the survival world
  • Right-click the compass in your inventory for a navigation menu
  • Walk through the portal on the island

Frequently asked questions

Can I use Minecraft Bedrock Edition (Windows 10/11 app)?
No — the server runs Java Edition only. Bedrock and Java are separate games that use different protocols. If you have the Xbox/Windows Store version, it won't work. You'll need to purchase Java Edition at minecraft.net.
I didn't get the verification email. What do I do?
Check your spam or junk folder first. If it's not there after 2–3 minutes, you can type your email in chat again to resend the code. Make sure you're using your exact @mosesbrown.org address.
Can I use the same email as another account?
No — each @mosesbrown.org email can only be linked to one Minecraft account. If you need to switch accounts, contact an admin.
I'm verified but can't find the survival world. How do I get there?
Type /play in chat, right-click the compass in your inventory and choose "Play", or walk through the portal on the spawn island.
Is there a cost to play?
The server itself is completely free to join. You do need a copy of Minecraft: Java Edition, which is a one-time purchase from minecraft.net.
